Since 1748, Van Cortlandt House Museum has stood as a symbol of New York's colonial past and the men and women who shaped our history. This beautiful Georgian-style mansion was built for Frederick Van Cortlandt, as the focal point of his prosperous wheat plantation, and is the oldest residence in the Bronx. Tour the family's formal and private rooms, containing many of the family's original possessions, as well as the kitchen and a slave bedchamber which show the diverse daily life of those who lived on the plantation.
